He DaVinci Resolve 16 Studio (USB Dongle) from Blackmagic Design is now the world’s only all-in-one solution that combines professional HD, 2K, 4K, 8K editing, color correction, visual effects and audio post production in one software application. I suppose my real question is, is the iGPU better left to handle the H.264/5 vs the dGPU in Resolve, since that is something Resolve seems to be capable of.BlackmagicDesign DaVinci Resolve Studio Dongle

But Resolve does have a dedicated section to change the decoding options for H.264/5 specifically vs everything else, so you can have it decode DNxHR with the dGPU while the iGPU handles the H.264, I imagine this is for a good reason but I haven't found testing done specifically with those two scenarios. I mostly work with those two codecs too so a dGPU is necessary for me. Using anything else, such as something mezzanine like DNxHR, or something fairly efficient like Davinci BRAW, then a dGPU is your best friend. I was asking all this because my understanding is that on a machine with an Intel iGPU using QuickSync, on Premiere Pro, you are better off using that specifically for H.264/5 decoding/encoding as their encoder is better than NVidia's for that codec (or at least that is the understanding I have). Yeah I figured this was the case, however iGPUs aren't really an extension of the CPU, while they are on the same substrate they are still GPU cores, the only thing making them not dedicated really comes down to using system RAM for VRAM.

I guess on a final note, is QuickSync on Premiere Pro much faster timeline wise? I have 0 interest in swapping back to Premiere but this was just something I was curious about. I mostly edit BRAW but about once a week I have to jump into some H.264 footage, generally I just transcode to DNxHR but this can take up a stupid amount of space when we are talking about footage that is 1+ hours long. Render times don't matter to me so just purely looking at decoding for editing on the timeline. For H.264/5 decoding in Resolve, does one recommend using Intel QuickSync or a CUDA GPU? Currently on a Blade Stealth with an 1165Gti, I did some back and forth and both seemed pretty similar, but I will soon have a eGPU with a 1080ti (soon to be 3090) in it which means I'll have a much faster dedicated GPU.
